LAURA STIEGHORST

Laura Stieghorst is a researcher, scientific consultant and the founder of Básico Carbon, a sole-member consultancy advancing ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) through research and development.

As a Miami native, Laura holds a life-long appreciation for Florida's unique and delicate ecology. From a young age, she volunteered as a citizen scientist studying local marine environmental issues including invasive species, algal blooms, and coral bleaching. She learned that repairing ocean health begins on land and connects all of south Florida's people and ecosystems.

Before launching her consulting career, Laura led Básico in an award winning XPRIZE Carbon Removal project researching the dissolution kinetics and environmental impacts of OAE She used her platform as a 776 Fellow and Aspen Institute Future Climate Leader to connect with young environmentalists and to advocate for solutions that are responsibly researched and capable of scaling to global impact.

Guided by a deep understanding of the OAE industry, brings her expertise in project management, field research, and policy strategy to accelerate the responsible development of marine carbon dioxide removal technologies. She leverages cross-sector collaboration, peer-reviewed science, and stakeholder engagement to advance OAE from experimental research to scalable climate solutions.
