Laura Stieghorst is the founder of Básico, bringing the potential of marine carbon dioxide removal out of the lab and into the field. Guided by a deep knowledge of mCDR techniques, Laura provides project management and scientific consulting services to address environmental challenges and opportunities for the private, public, and non-profit sectors.

Before launching her consulting career, she led Básico (then The ACIDD Project) in an award winning XPRIZE Carbon Removal proposal to research the dissolution kinetics and environmental impacts of OAE. She uses her platform as a 776 Fellow and Aspen Institute Future Climate Leader to connect with young environmentalists and to advocate for solutions that are responsibly researched and capable of scaling to global impact.

As a Miami native, Laura has held a lifelong appreciation for Florida's unique and delicate ecology. From a young age, she became involved with local issues in marine science and discovered a community that was eager to support her interests in invasive species, algal blooms, and coral conservation. She hopes that her work will help preserve the beauty of nature for generations to come.
